Farmers Cooperative Association
A Legacy of Agricultural Excellence
The Farmers Cooperative Association, located in Lindsay, Nebraska, was founded in 1907 with the aim of creating a vital platform for agricultural patrons to engage in the buying and selling of a diverse range of commodities and services. Throughout the years, the cooperative has experienced transformative changes, evolving significantly into the dynamic organization we see today.
In 1916, the Coop marked a significant milestone with the construction of its inaugural elevator, accompanied by the installation of electrical infrastructure, which greatly enhanced operational efficiency. The 1950s were a pivotal decade, during which the Coop acquired land on the southern outskirts of Lindsay. This expansion enabled the addition of a grain storage quonset and a state-of-the-art roller mill. By the 1960s, further advancements were made with the establishment of a feed storage warehouse situated north of the main office. During this period, a new elevator was constructed, alongside a feed mill built to the south, which remains operational today, producing specialized cattle grain mixes and rolling corn for local feedlots.
The subsequent decades of the 1970s and 80s saw significant growth in grain storage capabilities, with facilities expanding to accommodate an impressive 1,900,000 bushels of grain. After many years of relying on an IH straight truck and pup for feed transportation, the Coop made a strategic upgrade by investing in a semi-tractor and trailer. Additionally, the introduction of the first radio communication system greatly improved internal communications.
The 1990s brought further innovation, including the establishment of both liquid and dry fertilizer plants and the implementation of a computerized bookkeeping system to streamline operations. As the new millennium approached, the early 2000s saw the addition of a modern chemical building constructed to the west of the main office, along with a new bagged feed warehouse to the east. This facility was equipped with a shop and a meeting room, enhancing the Farmers Cooperative Associations' operational capacity. To improve service speed, a second anhydrous ammonia fill station was introduced, alongside a computerized feed system designed to optimize feed management.
In 2010, FCA expanded once again, establishing a new site approximately half a mile east of the original location. This expansion included the development of a feed mill completed in 2012 and the addition of four million bushels of grain storage over the past decade. In 2016, a new office was built in town, strategically located where the original office once stood. This office is now spacious enough to stock a comprehensive range of hardware supplies necessary for farming operations. Moreover, the Coop made a significant acquisition by purchasing Lindsay Oil Company from Terry and Dale Schaecher. This station now provides a complete array of fuels and lubricants, along with tire services, oil and filter changes, and minor vehicle repairs.
In 2020, to further meet the evolving needs of our patrons, a state-of-the-art plant for anhydrous ammonia, liquid fertilizer, and dry fertilizer was constructed at the east location. Today, we proudly stand as a full-service cooperative, offering cutting-edge solutions in agronomy, feed, fuel, and grain services. Our single-location model allows us to provide each of our customers with the personalized attention they truly deserve. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers for choosing us as their trusted provider of agricultural inputs, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to serve you for many years to come.
